President Barack Obama has ordered his administration to “scale up” the quantity of Syrian refugees admitted to the u. s. within the coming year, leading his team to organize for a minimum of 10,000 within the next year, the White House said last week.
The announcement comes amid growing pressure for the U.S. to extend the amount of refugees it accepts as those displaced by the raging Syrian war pour into Europe and different regions.
Before the White House announcement, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi criticized the amount of extra refugees the Obama administration had said last week that it had been trying to simply accept — just 5,000.
